2022-2023 Chief Executive Officer
School: Mission San Jose High School

I have had the privilege of being a TBC officer for the past three years. I started in the summer of 2020 when the pandemic first started. I started as a Recruitment Officer. After a year, I was promoted to Chief Recruitment Officer, then Executive Director of Auxiliary Programs. I served as TBC’s CEO for the 2022-2023 school year. During my time with TBC, I have witnessed the power of music on the community and developed my own skill in music, teamwork, communication, and efficiency. As a tuba and trombone player, I have grown as a musician by performing multiple times yearly with TBC and teaching elementary and middle-school students. I started being a TA for three elementary students, but that eventually grew to the nearly 600 elementary students and 100 middle school students we have in our programs. As CEO, I have experienced invaluable lessons in teamwork. The teamwork done as a TBC officer differs greatly from any school project or club. The work done by the officer team has consequences and benefits beyond a grade. The job done can affect over a hundred people. We work with other officers not in the same class or school as us. We are forced to work with officers of all backgrounds with varying levels of availability. Because of the far greater learning opportunity TBC offers, communication also improves. Officers respond within 24 hours; dry, inadequate responses cannot be tolerated. Any unprofessionalism normally tolerated in a classroom disappears. Being a TBC officer allows high schoolers to understand the responsibility that comes along with a job. Now that I am going to college, I am glad that TBC has given me higher expectations for myself, my behavior, and my work. Reaching out to the local student organizations and nonprofits in the area shows this clearly; every organization at college unprofessionally takes weeks to respond, while I have learned to plan six months in advance with TBC. Being a TBC officer and member is something every high schooler should consider doing. TBC has a range of officer positions that can fit anyone, from a computer science enthusiast to a future finance major to a prospective musician. TBC does more in a year than most school programs do in five years. I can’t wait to see what else this organization can do in future years.
