Donations

Each year, it costs us over $100,000 to operate our programs for facility rentals, sheet music, competition registration fees, staffing, operations, insurance, thank-you gifts for our TAs, and so much more. It is also our core value that music programs be available for all students regardless of their financial status. To that end, we have provided FREE options for all students as well as instrument rentals for low-income families. We ask that families who can support the program with a financial donation please do so, but for those who cannot, parents may instead volunteer their time at TBC events and fundraisers to offset the cost for their child. Families needing additional support should reach out to us for options.

*Siblings receive a 25% discount on the same or lower-level membership

**All contributions are considered donations and are fully tax-deductible

Introduction Video

Want to learn what the Cadets are all about?

Come join our award-winning marching band program!

About Us

The Cadet Regiment is open to all current sixth, seventh, and eighth graders from all schools. Students will be rehearsing to perform in several parades throughout the year. Participants will get a chance to meet band students from across the Bay Area, learn how to march, and perform in front of tens of thousands of audience members.

This program was created to provide junior high students with the opportunity to participate in marching band before high school so that musicians can gain experience and be better prepared for high school music programs. This not only allows participants to meet like-minded, dedicated students from other schools but also strengthens the high school marching programs. Most of the top high school marching band programs begin marching programs in junior high. With the implementation of the Cadet Regiment, we hope to improve the quality of marching programs in the community and see a growth in membership at local high schools.

Student Staff

Lila Ehling

Executive Director of Auxiliary Programs

Lila Ehling is a junior at Irvington High School. This is their fifth or more year in TBC, and they play color guard. If she won the lottery, Lila would spend it on something for her family like a family vacation or something of their choice and new clothes/jewelry. Lila's biggest pet peeve is people who eat in a messy way. For example, eating with your mouth open, making loud chewing noises. She does not particularly have a favorite pasta shape, but when told to pick one, she would pick fusilli.

Matthew Chan

Cadet Regiment Director (East Bay)

Matthew Chan is a junior at Irvington High School. This is their third year in TBC, and they play bassoon. If Matthew won the lottery, he would likely invest a portion of the winnings in securing his financial future, allocating funds towards traveling to explore new destinations and experiences, supporting causes he's passionate about, and in personal luxuries. One of Matthew's biggest pet peeves is when people chew with their mouths open– it is a disregard of basic etiquette to him, and he finds it incredibly distracting and disgusting, disrupting his dining experience. Matthew's favorite pasta shape is penne, as the cylindrical shape with its diagonally cut ends captures his culinary heart. Its ridges and hollow center are also perfect for holding onto sauce.

Jessica Liu

Middle School Programs Director (South Bay)

Lanhao Jessica Liu is a senior at Monta Vista High School. This is their second year in TBC, and they play euphonium and color guard but mostly guard. If she won the lottery, she would probably save most of it because most people who win the lottery go broke and she hopefully won’t be one of those people. One of her biggest pet peeves is when people walk too slow and block the path because it just feels like they lack a sense of social awareness. Her favorite pasta shape is the elbow because of the nostalgia and deliciousness of classic mac and cheese.

WHY JOIN?

Make new friends from other schools: The Cadet Regiment offers junior high school students the unparalleled opportunity to meet music students from across the Tri-City area! During rehearsals and parades, participants will learn to work as a team and create lasting friendships as they bond during these fulfilling activities.

Perform to Improve: TBC Cadet Regiment is the growing foundation for both high school marching bands and our renowned Royal Regiment. As the only junior high marching band in the Tri-City area, the Cadet Regiment welcomes junior high students who are interested in joining the marching band in the future.

Get a head start in high school: Learn marching fundamentals and gain performance experience during summer parades! Students will train in marching basics, preparing them for high school marching band and strengthening our local high school marching groups.

Leadership Opportunities: Student officers run just about everything in TBC and practice leadership skills frequently. Cadets who have successfully finished a parade season with us can apply for a Leadership Position in our Cadet Leadership Team. This team will work alongside our staff to help run rehearsals as well as provide input on Cadet Regiment events. When Cadet Regiment participants graduate and go on to join the high school groups, they’ll be able to enter high school as officers.

Community Service (for high school students): High school students have the chance to participate with the Cadet Regiment by training and mentoring the junior high participants. By volunteering their time teaching and helping out, these students earn service hours, potentially qualify for some of TBC’s service learning awards, and contribute back to the community!
