Make friends from across the Bay Area: The Royal Regiment has members from multiple Bay Area cities and provides a great opportunity for students to create lasting bonds with people who share a passion for music with them.


Perform in front of large audiences and on broadcasts: The parades the Royal Regiment takes part in have thousands of viewers and often are broadcast online, such as international performances.


Leadership Opportunities: Unlike other youth bands, the Royal Regiment is a member-run organization. Our high school student officers organize everything from music rehearsals to marching drills, fundraisers, equipment & uniform maintenance, choreographing color guard routines, and more. We believe that practical hands-on training for student leadership is one of the most important aspects of our program.


Community Service: ​Participants are issued community service hour forms for the parades they participate in and the rehearsals they attend. The service hour forms are issued at the end of the program.



About Us





TBC’s Royal Regiment dates back to July 2004 when founder Harrison Cheng first formed the unit. Since then, the unit has grown from just 20 members to over 750 with students currently from over 8 Bay Area high schools, including all 5 schools from FUSD. The Royal Regiment has performed annually at the Niles Festival of Lights Parade, the Salinas Colmo Del Rodeo Parade, and the Hollister Lights on Parade. In addition, the Royal Regiment has also performed in the Alameda County Fair Parade, the Newark Days Festival, Fremont 4th of July Parade, Fremont Festival of Globe Parade (formerly Festival of India Parade) among several other local performances.


In 2016 with the launch of the highly successful Cadet Regiment (for junior high students and those without any marching experience) and the pilot Highland Regiment, TBC reorganized and rebranded their general marching band unit as the Royal Regiment to help distinguish the three separate units now under the Tri-City Band Corps umbrella. The term “Royal” was chosen to reflect the royal blue color of the uniforms, the modeling of our uniforms after British military uniforms, and to signify the senior status of the regiment over the other units within TBC.


The Royal Regiment made its international performance debut in 2016 as part of the London New Year’s Day Parade. TBC was selected to perform in London after submitting a video application a few years before the trip. In 2015, TBC was proud to host Councillor Robert Davis MBE DL and Fremont Mayor Bill Harrison where we were officially honored with an invitation to perform in London along with a Certificate of Achievement from the City of Fremont. The Royal Regiment later received our official invitation to partake in Rome's New Year's Day Parade in 2018. Recently, the Royal Regiment was invited to perform in the London New Year's Parade in 2024 with plans to continue performing internationally in the future!
