Quarter 2 Newsletter

2024-2025

Hello, TBC Members! This issue of our newsletter wraps up this past quarter and introduces our upcoming events. We would like to thank all of our wonderful members and parents for their participation and tremendous support towards our organization.

Fall Parades

TBC’s Royal Regiment participated in three parades this fall: the Niles Festival of Lights Parade, the Hollister Lights On Parade, and the Pleasanton Hometown Holiday Parade. View more pictures at tinyurl.com/RoyalsFall24. The parades were open to both band and color guard students, and students benefited from earning community service hours and meeting new friends!

TBC’s Hastati and Highland Regiment participated in one parade this fall: the Niles Festival of Lights. Hastati’s Advanced Band will be performing at the NCBA Large Ensemble Concert on April 5th, 2025, and the next performance for the entire Hastati Regiment and Highland Regiment will be on May 24th, 2025 during TBC’s annual Spring Concert at San Mateo Performing Art Center. Tickets can be bought here!

TBC’s Cadet Regiment participated in two parades this fall: the Niles Festival of Lights Parade and the Pleasanton Hometown Holiday Parade. For Spring Parades, Cadets have already performed in the San Jose Lunar New Year Parade on January 25th and will be performing at the San Francisco Chinese New Year Parade, Dublin St. Patrick’s Parade, San Francisco Cherry Blossom Parade, and NCBA Livingston Band Review on February 15th, March 15th, April 20th, and May 3rd respectively.

Fall Pasta Feed

Our annual Fall Feed was held at two locations this year! The first event was held on Sunday, November 24th at the Centerville Community Center, followed by the second gathering on December 14th at the Cupertino Senior Center. People brought their friends and family to support TBC while enjoying unlimited food, including pasta, salads, garlic bread, mac and cheese, cake, boba, and more. With around 200 attendees, we have raised $3,346 to fund our TBC programs! Thank you for everyone’s support!

Winter Guard

Imperialis and Immortalis are TBC’s current Winter Guard programs led by Colin Apperson and Victor Ramos with guest instructors, Ben Wilkinson, Fou Saelee, Mona Lam, Cathy Wang, and Kelsey Dougherty. This program offers opportunities for students in elementary schools up to college grade levels. Imperialis is our advanced guard group in division INA, generally having older age students. Immortalis is our beginning guard group in division IRA, which generally has younger students. Winter Guard is an opportunity to bond with other students, learn and experience leadership, and most importantly, have fun!

Winter Drum Major

Drum majors are the student leaders and conductors of the marching band. During the winter, students are able to compete in a series of solo competitions for baton or mace spinning and conducting. This year, we have a team of students from several different schools who have been working hard to prepare for their first competition in February. The program offers the opportunity to learn how to conduct and spin a mace from experienced students, eventually lead TBC or your high school band in a parade, and make new friends along the way! You can still sign up now here.

Percussion Programs

Tri-City Percussion and Special Needs Percussion are both in the midst of their seasons. Tri-City Percussion, TBC's winter percussion unit, is a WGI Independent Open Class group competing in events such as WGI Union City and NCPA Logan. This talented ensemble is taught by top DCI techs and instructors. The Special Needs Percussion Regiment provides students with special needs the opportunity to experience music SNP is supported by many dedicated volunteer TAs and performs at events like the NCBA Foothill Winter Review.

Please register here! Prices will increase by $600 after March 1, 2025, so sign up now to secure the early bird discount! This trip is an amazing performance experience, a way to make lasting memories with friends, and great to showcase on future college applications. We hope you will join us!

College Counseling

Our free presentation is geared towards parents and students of all ages to help you make an informed decision for your class selection, clubs, activities, and how the performing arts can help you. While college may seem far away, many decisions that you make even in elementary school will shape your college application. Understanding what colleges are looking for will help you make the best decisions possible early on. Just last Friday, we had our first session. We have our next session this Thursday! While this presentation is geared primarily to students involved in the performing arts, it is open to all students and families, and our counselor will answer any question that you have. Learn more about the counselor and register here.

Upcoming Summer Programs Registration

Summer program registration for Cadets, Royals, and Hastai regiments will be released in February! The Pleasanton chapter will reopen again for Hastati and Cadets. In addition, Royals will now be having separate rehearsals at San Jose and Fremont. Please be on the lookout for registration forms. We are looking forward to this great season ahead!

Newark Library League Fun Walk Booth

We’re excited to announce that the Tri-City Band Corps will be participating in the Newark Library League’s Fun Walk this Spring! The event will take place at Civic Center Park, across from the Newark Library. Please stop by our booth to support us! More details will be shared as the event date approaches.

Officer Bondings

The officers of TBC meet quarterly for fun bonding activities to strengthen their teamwork and build connections. For Quarter 1, on September 14th, the officers watched Beetlejuice Beetlejuice together at Century Theaters. Afterwards, they walked over to get some Crumbl cookies. It was a great chance to relax and enjoy each other’s company! For Quarter 2, officers gathered at Sharetea on January 11th. They enjoyed hanging out, drank boba, and played games such as Mafia, cards, and Basketball FRVR. It was a fantastic way to bond while having a great time together! For Quarter 3, officers are planning to watch Captain America: Brave at Cinemark Century on March 6th!

See's Candy Fundraiser

From January 6th to January 24th, TBC hosted an online See’s Candies Fundraiser! By purchasing chocolates online, part of the profits went toward supporting our programs and shows, including our elementary and cadet programs. If you made a purchase, thank you for your support!

Sincerely,

Patricia Wu
