Quarter One

Newsletter

Greetings, TBC Members! This issue of our newsletter wraps up this past quarter and introduces our upcoming events. We would like to thank all of our wonderful members and parents for their participation and tremendous support towards our organization.

Coronavirus Update

TBC has and always will be committed to putting our members’ health first. Due to the continued risks of COVID-19, we have decided to cancel our Royal and Cadet Regiments for the summer and fall seasons. For the same reasons, many parade organizers have also decided to cancel their respective events, the majority of them having replaced their live parades with virtual ones. Both of our parade groups will take part in these events, and we would love it if you could check out our performances which will be announced through our social media.

Unfortunately, due to the current circumstances, TBC has lost approximately $7,500 worth of fundraising this year. Still, TBC has maintained and expanded our organization in an effort to provide students with opportunities to improve musicianship during this time. Now, more than ever, we need your support during these trying times. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation here, any amount is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your continued support!

Elementary Band Program

TBC’s Elementary Band Program really kicked off during the summer as the only elementary music program still active in Fremont during the COVID-19 crisis. Heading into the school year now, we’ve made additional improvements including weekly 1:1 TA lessons, sectionals, video lessons, and SmartMusic, an advanced music learning software that utilizes AI to provide immediate feedback to students. We are extremely excited to have over 250 students and over 120 TAs in our program, and we cannot wait to see the progress our students will make! More information can be found on our website here.

Eternal Regiment

TBC’s Eternal Regiment, like the Elementary Band, has also shifted over to an online format. It features an extremely comprehensive color guard program which includes: weekly video lessons, video HW assignments, and 1:1 TA lessons. Eternal Regiment is representing 17 schools across the Bay Area and now has nearly double the number of students compared to years before. Our hope is to be able to offer color guard to more people and continue this program whether it be through distance-learning or in person. More information can be found on our website here.

Tri-City Winter Guard

Tri-City Winter Guard (TCWG) hopes to provide an opportunity to students passionate about winter guard an opportunity to do what they love while learning from top Bay Area instructors. We are excited to offer this opportunity to students for the 2021 season; it will only be available to those who do not currently have an active school program. Auditions will take place on Sunday, November 1st from 1-5 pm at Mission San Jose Park. More information can be found on our website and the registration form.

High School Virtual Guard Classes

We’ve partnered with our instructors from TCWG to teach high school students more about color guard as many of their own high school programs remain inactive. We are currently offering an advanced flag class along with a beginner rifle class. Fundamentals and choreography are being taught through a combination of Zoom lessons and instructional videos.

TBC Mask Fundraiser

TBC is excited to introduce our new mask fundraiser! These everyday-use masks are made from an anti-bacterial poly-blended material and come in two styles, defender and commuter, to suit everyone in the family. For each mask sold, TBC will receive 25% of the profit. More mask designs will be coming soon. You can purchase masks here.

Drum Major International

Drum Major International (DMI) was founded in 2020 to provide a unified competition circuit for drum majors. DMI is a national non-profit organization and maintains strict judging requirements to ensure a consistent and fair experience for all competitors. We encourage all of our members interested in conducting or flourishing to enter DMI’s first annual winter season competition. More information can be found on their main website here.

Sincerely,

Suhas Palawala
