I have been with TBC for eight years now, starting as a student in our Hastati Regiment in 4th grade. Since then, I have been a student in both the Hastati and Cadet Regiments, moved on to be a TA for two years, and now am the Executive Director of Elementary Programs for TBC. Each stage of my journey with TBC has taught me new lessons and qualities that help me till this day. Back in 4th grade, I got over my fear of playing alone in sectionals, teaching me the seemingly banal skill of confidence in myself that I still need and use everyday. The Cadet Regiment brought me new friends that I still talk to till this day, learning how music and friendship can be coupled together and developed together. As a Beginning Band TA, I learned leadership and was given the opportunity to help my kids in the same way I had TAs helping me in elementary school. Always being the only oboe in every band I was in growing up, I made sure none of my students felt that way and that sectionals were not only fun but also a learning experience for each of them. Now, finally, I am the Executive Director of Elementary Programs, organizing and leading the program that I first joined eight years ago as a fourth grader. I have learned how to effectively plan, structure, and organize such a large program at a high level, but also how to connect with each of my students personally. TBC has given me the opportunity to grow as a leader, mentor, and example both within my team and with my students and has become an integral part of my life, giving me a great community and teaching me irreplaceable life skills I know I will use beyond this organization and into the future.
