My son started out as a summer clarinet TA when he was a high school freshman. He enjoyed teaching while earning volunteer service hours. The next school year he applied to be an officer. He is going to be a 2nd year student in the Auxiliary department. The TBC officer position really gave him an opportunity to learn & grow. I can see that he learned to be more responsible, be better at time management and team communication. You can't learn any of this in the classroom. Being a TBC officer taught him to become more efficient in what he does and communicate better and faster. Even when he applied for the officer job, I could see that he put in lots of effort and I can tell he thought it was all worth it. All in all, TBC gave him an opportunity to hang out & grow together with his fellow musicians. It's an experience that he will treasure for a long time to come and what he has learned will stick with him. Before he joined, I had thought that it would just be another one of those things people do for hours but afterwards I quickly realized that he would grow as a person and learn so much.
