Cadet Regiment!

This summer we have started a Junior High program to not only feed into our high school program, but also to help students learn the fundamentals of marching so that they enter high school more prepared for marching band. Our instructors include high school marching band coaches, upperclassmen high school students, and even a judge from the NCBA marching band circuit. We know that a lot of students are worried about joining marching band in high school because they are unfamiliar with it. We hope that this program will help introduce it to students and help them realize how fun it can be.

From a competitive standpoint, FUSD schools compete in the NCBA circuit where the highest performing bands typically all start marching competitions in Jr. High. By offering this program to Jr. High students, we are not only preparing them, but the whole high school program to succeed in the fall band reviews. There are also opportunities for students to compete in solo drum major, team percussion, and team color guard competitions starting in Jr. High, which if we have enough interest, we hope to field a team.

Our new program is open to all current 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE IN THE SCHOOL BAND TO JOIN. In fact a large majority of our Color Guard members are from Choir, Orchestra, and other non-band students. A completely separate unit has been formed to enter the parades.
